International Mandela Day Celebration Draws Crowds to Bizana

To mark this year’s International Nelson Mandela Day on 18 July, the provincial government, Nelson Mandela Museum , Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Alfred Nzo District Municipality and Winnie Madikizela Mandela Local Municipality hosted the Nelson Mandela Day celebration at Ludeke Methodist Church, in Bizana.

The event was jam-packed with activities, commencing with a 5km walk. MEC for the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Sibulele Ngongo, highlighted the planned activities for the day towards the 67 minutes for Mandela Day campaign, which included painting the Ludeke Church, book donation to the Ludeke Crèche, and providing medical care to the elderly.

Ludeke Methodist Church is in the process of being declared a national heritage site through the assistance of South African Heritage Resources Agency. This declaration will translate to tourism opportunities for the Winnie Madikizela Mandela Local Municipality.
