DSRAC HOSTS YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME TO
BOOST EC CREATIVE SECTOR
The Department of Sport Recreation Arts and Culture hosted the Youth Creatives Programme from 5-17 August 2024 at the Gompo Art Centre in East London.
The 3-day Young Creatives Workshop is a youth-focused programme offered by the department with the purpose to mainstream youth development in arts, culture, and heritage, towards socio-economic opportunities, supporting their creative endeavours and encouraging civic participation.
The programme aimed to inspire a new generation of creatives who will not only contribute to the cultural fabric of our society but will also promote a self-sufficient arts and culture sector. The creative industry plays a vital role in shaping culture, fostering innovation, and contributing to economic growth. Through engagements with experienced mentors and industry experts, the creatives and structures had the opportunity to refine their skills, expand their knowledge, and gain valuable insights into various art forms and basic elements of public service.
The programme was hosted in partnership with various stakeholders, including the national Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), Buffalo City Metro Municipality and CATHSSETA.
